Overview

The current GEAR UP Maine Online Student Database was created and is managed by GEM School Software. Data collected in this site is used to complete GEAR UP reporting, including Biennial Evaluations and Annual Performance Reports.

This database tracks:

- student information
- student coursework
- student participation/activities
- student FAFSA filing status (via FAME)
- annual district plans
- match and in-kind contributions

Reports can be drawn from the data on a school or state-wide level to inform school decision making.

FAQ's

Q: How do I check that all of my students’ GEAR UP required info is in the database?

A: Here are the steps to check for MEDMS ID, IEP, ESL, free/reduced lunch, and ethnicity status:

1. MEDMS ID

• Go to www.gearupmedata.org and login
• Select the school you are checking
• Under “students” select:
  o “Groups forms for students”
  o “MEMDS ID”
• This will show you a list of all of your active GU students and their MEDMS IDs. If a student(s) does not have a MEDMS ID you can enter it on this page and then click “post update” at the bottom of the page.

2. IEP, ESL, Free/reduced lunch

• Go to www.gearupmedata.org and login
• Select the school you are checking
• Under “students” select:
  o “Groups forms for students”
  o “GEAR UP Required Info”
• The three columns at the far left show whether or not a student has an IEP, takes ESL, or qualifies for free/reduced lunch. Either yes or no must be selected for each of your students. “Post update” at the bottom of the page.

3. Ethnicity

• Go to www.gearupmedata.org and login
• Select the school you are checking
• Under “students” select:
  o “Groups forms for students”
  o “Student Ethnicity”
• Select an ethnicity for each active student and “post update” at the bottom of the page
